A Codex field note

What happens when you redeem a Codex usage reset?

I had just finished a task that ran for nearly 30 hours. CodexBar was showing 79% with a flame, and the CLI said I had four usage resets banked. So I tried one.

The starting point

A long task finished, but the meter was still hot.

The task landed after 1 day, 5 hours and 51 minutes. Up in the menu bar, CodexBar showed 79% and added a flame because I was running hotter than pace. The CLI also told me four usage limit resets were available.

Open the menu

/usage is where the reset lives.

Running /usage opens the account usage menu. From there, the redeem option sits next to the normal usage view and shows the number of credits currently available.

Pick a credit

Each reset has its own expiry time.

I had four full resets banked. Codex listed the expiry for each one, so the sensible choice was the earliest-expiring credit at the top.

Redeem it

Codex consumes one credit.

The reset happens in place. A short “Using a reset...” message appears, then Codex confirms the new balance. Four became three.

The payoff

Then CodexBar noticed zero.

Once the usage reading hit exactly 0%, CodexBar brought back its celebration. Fireworks filled the screen. Slightly unnecessary? Maybe. Still very satisfying.
